Type 65 Coupe – Factory Five Racing

There were only six original Coupes ever made. Those cars captured the 1965 FIA World Championship for America in the last years before mega-money took American roadracing from its roots and from the average guy. Despite the fact that the design never entered production, those six cars, hand-built upon 289 AC chassis, are some of the most valuable collector cars on the planet. Each of the original six Daytona Coupes is valued at more than $8 million. More importantly than the money, these cars have became symbolic of the end of an era.

This car is one of the most unique and stunning shapes in automotive history. Even today, more than 50 years later, the muscular lines and aggressive stance has no equal. There is perhaps no other car more capable of making a Corvette driver appear to be wearing a skirt.

While the dramatic design makes people stop and stare, only the hard-core car guys know its full history. You won’t see three of them lined up at your local Starbucks, and even at car shows these Factory Fives are rare birds. It is certainly not a car for everyone, but it is definitely the only car for some.

Each Factory Five Type 65 Coupe is true to the road racing legacy that gave the design its birth, and yet with modern engineering and technologies, our cars are much more livable than the originals.

Of all our designs, the Coupe is my favorite. I have one parked at home in my garage. I have raced it at tracks around the country and drive it on the street here in New England. It makes me feel like Dan Gurney when I drive it, and my wife wrinkles her nose and says it smells like gas when I make her ride in it with me … a man cannot ask more of a car.

Introducing the all-new Gen 3 Factory Five Daytona Coupe replica.  This third generation car is completely new.  There is not a single piece of steel chassis, aluminum panel, or composite body that is shared with the previous gen 1 and gen 2 car!  This is effectively an all-new Factory Five design.

After last year’s SEMA Show, we began working on a major revision to our original Type 65 Daytona Coupe.  After carefully considering the design goals, Director of R&D Jim Schenck decided he could not meet the goals of increased performance, increased cockpit space, and improved body shape without designing an all-new modern space-frame chassis to replace the vintage round tube chassis. Once we decided on an all-new chassis, we agreed to revise the body from the ground up with a new, improved, more symmetrical, and more aerodynamic shape.

The car has been track tested and carefully developed over the past year addressing many of the requests from customers for improvement over the old car and incorporating forward thinking new changes.

A close second to the chassis re-design was the complete re-design of the body.  The new Coupe composite body is simply perfect in shape, proportion, and symmetry. The most obvious change is the new glass hatch and revised tail section with pronounced fender flares, a revised rear spoiler, and more period-correct rear end with an improved tail angle and slightly bigger surface.

The new Factory Five Gen 3 Daytona Coupe replica is better in every way.  The company has 15 years of design maturity that was brought to bear on this car that was originally designed in 1999.  The kit price will increase by $1,000 in both the base and complete kits. Frame:

Complete jig-welded tube frame. 95” wheelbase chassis. Includes all mounts ready to accept small block Ford 302 and 351 engines and Ford running gear from 1987-1993 Mustangs and 5.0L Coyote.

Body:

Hand laid 3/16” laminate composite body includes hinged nose, main rear clip and doors with hinged glass rear window. Made with high-quality vinylester resin.

• Front nose with hinge kit; includes gas strut supports, fasteners, and under nose body mount supports
• Original style molded-in hood scoop and fog light recesses

Front Suspension:

Rear Suspension:

We also offer two other optional rear suspensions. The 3-link rear suspension includes:

Brake/Fuel Lines:

Base kit comes with pre-flared brake/fuel lines, (3/16”, 1/4” and 5/16”) and fasteners to use OEM style fuel tank and system. Includes polished vintage Aston LeMans flip top gas cap, integral modern fuel pressure cap and adaptor kit, fuel lines, connectors, filler neck and fasteners.

• Pre-flared fuel lines (1/4” and 5/16”) with unions, barbs, hose clamps and high press flex lines and fasteners
• Aston LeMans original polished aluminum fuel cap with integral pressure cap, gaskets, ground strap, fuel hose to tank with fasteners

Steering Kit:

Steering adapter kit to utilize Mustang steering rack includes upper shaft, pillow blocks, flange bearings, fasteners, lower shaft and U-joints. Features a collapsible
column, Vintage wood and aluminum steering wheel with aluminum boss, center section and Factory Five Racing badge.

• Lower steering shaft with 1987-1993 rack adapter (3/4”-36 spline)
